Guardrails exist at multiple levels because damage propagates. A failure that begins inside a single trade can escalate into a session, compound across days, and ultimately destabilize identity if left unchecked.
Each level exists to contain damage before it becomes irreversible.

If any of these elements are missing, discretion re-enters the system. Discretion is exactly what pressure exploits.
The Guardrail Stack
Guardrails are layered and hierarchical. Each level contains failure at a different scale.
- Trade-level guardrails contain local damage.

No lower-level guardrail can override a higher-level one.

Contain local damage before it propagates.
Triggers
Any one of the following activates the guardrail:
- predefined stop is touched
- price fails to make meaningful progress within a defined time or structure window
- the structural premise objectively fails
- an execution error occurs (wrong size, late entry, missed stop)
Response
- stop touched → immediate exit
- time or structure failure → exit at best available structure
- premise failure → immediate exit
- execution error → immediate flatten
Lockout
A fixed pause follows any forced exit.
No immediate re-entry. No “fixing” the trade.
Re-entry Conditions
- a new premise exists
- a fresh stop is defined
- state eligibility is confirmed (regulated enough to act)
Once triggered, the trade is complete. The guardrail does not argue.
Session-Level Guardrails
Session-level guardrails operate across multiple trades. They define maximum session loss, maximum number of attempts, and maximum tolerated deviation from process. They exist because damage rarely comes from a single mistake. It comes from continuation under degraded conditions.
Session-Level Guardrail Protocol
Purpose
Preserve decision quality and capital across the trading day.
Triggers
Any one of the following activates the guardrail:
- predefined session loss reached
- maximum trade attempts reached
- repeated rule violations
- state regulation fails more than once
- urgency or justification persists after a pause
Response
- all positions flattened
- no new trades placed
- participation ends for the day
Lockout
The remainder of the session is locked.
No same-day re-entry.
Re-entry Conditions
- emotional baseline restored
- termination acknowledged and recorded
- no carryover justification
- normal pre-session eligibility restored
The session guardrail preserves tomorrow by ending today.
Weekly Guardrails
Weekly guardrails operate across variance and time. They define cumulative drawdown tolerance, exposure to streaks, and mandatory review thresholds. They exist because short-term survival is meaningless if cumulative damage erodes trust, discipline, or capital.
Weekly Guardrail Protocol
Purpose
Protect long-term viability.
Triggers
Any one of the following activates the guardrail:
- weekly drawdown limit reached
- sustained losing streak exceeds tolerance
- repeated session-level guardrail activations
- metrics deviate meaningfully from expectancy
- psychological patterns repeat without improvement
Response
- live trading pauses
- exposure drops to zero or simulation-only
- focus shifts to review and recalibration
Lockout
Trading remains paused until review is complete.
Duration is fixed or minimum-bounded.
Re-entry Conditions
- structured review completed
- primary failure mode identified
- constraints or process adjusted
- clear articulation of what changes before re-exposure
Weekly guardrails prevent the account from being traded through a problem instead of resolving it.
Identity-Level Guardrails
Identity-level guardrails operate inside the trader. They monitor clarity, urgency, emotional charge, and decision compression. They exist because once trust in self-regulation degrades, all other guardrails weaken.
Identity-Level Guardrail Protocol
Purpose
Prevent emotional escalation and identity drift from hijacking behavior.
Triggers
Activation occurs when two or more are present:
- persistent urge to act without structure
- accelerated self-talk or justification loops
- physical agitation
- desire to “fix” or “get back”
- resistance to standing down
Response

- if coherence does not return, flatten and end participation
Lockout
- minimum reset away from execution

Failure in either domain interrupts participation the same way:

Markets adapt continuously. Human stress responses do not. Guardrails remain fixed so behavior stays consistent while conditions change. Flexibility exists in execution and structure. Boundaries remain stable. If a guardrail feels inconvenient, it is functioning correctly.
Responses are enacted immediately upon recognition. Evaluation occurs later, outside of live conditions.
