🔎 Deep Dive – VWAP Squeeze Scalp
Also see Variant #5
Definition
The VWAP Squeeze Scalp capitalizes on shorts trapped after an attempted extension away from VWAP fails. Once price stops making new lows and establishes a higher low + higher high, buyers take control. Shorts, initially confident, shift to fear and eventually capitulate, fueling a sharp move back to VWAP.
Why It Works
- Failed Extension = Trap. Sellers think the move will keep extending lower, but price stalls.
- New Trend Signal. Distinct higher low + higher high confirms control shifting to buyers.
- Short Squeeze Fuel. Shorts lose conviction, then cover en masse on the breakout.
- VWAP Magnet. Price gravitates back toward VWAP as equilibrium restores.
Variants
- Long VWAP Squeeze: Failed sell extension → higher lows/highs → longs ride squeeze to VWAP.
- Short VWAP Squeeze: Failed buy extension → lower highs/lows → shorts ride squeeze down to VWAP.
DOM & Tape Tells
- Aggressive selling slows → order flow balance shifts.
- Buyers step in consistently: bids replenished, absorption supports higher lows.
- Breakout through consolidation range on tape shows shorts puking.
- Flow is controlled and methodical, not chaotic.
Trading Application
- Entry Rule: Enter aggressively on break of consolidation range after structure confirmed (≥1 higher low + 1 higher high). Hit the offer/bid; don’t wait for close.
- Stop Placement: Hard stop just below the most recent higher low (tight — trade should move immediately).
- Exit Plan: Exit full position into VWAP. One-and-done trade; no re-entries.
Conditions That Improve Odds
- Consistent price action off low of day. Clean, structured, not choppy.
- Majority of trading above rising 9 EMA once higher lows start forming.
- Confusing catalyst/news → adds fuel to reversals.
Conditions That Kill the Setup
- General market trending against your scalp direction (reduces squeeze pressure).
- Range forms too close to LOD (not enough room to VWAP).
- Day 1 breakdown on higher timeframe (avoid longs into higher-timeframe supply).
Ideal Timing
- Morning (10:00–10:45 EST): After early downside fails to extend.
- Midday (10:46–1:30 EST): After morning move stalls and buyers regain control.
Stats
- Win rate: ~50–60%.
- Avg Reward-to-Risk: ~1.4:1.
⚖️ Bottom Line:
The VWAP Squeeze Scalp is about patience and confirmation. Don’t fade the first stall — wait for the higher low + higher high structure and the range break. When shorts realize they’re trapped, VWAP becomes the inevitable magnet.
